Lisbon Oceanarium

The Oceanarium is an oceanarium located in the Parque das Nações, which was the exhibition grounds for the Expo '98. The Lisbon Oceanarium’s conceptual design, architecture, and exhibit design was led by Peter Chermayeff of Peter Chermayeff LLC while at Cambridge Seven Associates. Opened in 1998, today it is home to more than 16,000 animals of over 450 species, including penguins, seagulls, sea otters, sharks, rays, chimaeras, and many others.

Chiado refers to the square and its surrounding area. Chiado, a traditional shopping and important cultural area, is a combination of old and modern commercial establishments, mostly located at the Carmo and Garrett streets. It is home to the most well-known café of Chiado called "A Brasileira" as well as several museums and theatres, and is one of the most visited attractions in Lisbon.

Igreja de São Roque

The Igreja de São Roque was the earliest Jesuit church in the Portuguese world, and one of the first Jesuit churches anywhere. It served as the Society’s home church in Portugal for over 200 years, before the Jesuits were expelled from that country. After the 1755 Lisbon Earthquake, the church and its ancillary residence were given to the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa (the Charity House of Lisbon) to replace their church and headquarters which had been destroyed. The church also houses a small museum.
