Montserrat (mountain)

Montserrat, located near the city of Barcelona, is a multi-peaked mountain, part of the Catalan Pre-Coastal Range and Spain's first National Park. Named for the Caribbean island of Montserrat, the mountain, one of the most visited attractions in Barcelona, is well known as the location of the Benedictine abbey called Santa Maria de Montserrat. The mountain's main peaks are Sant Jeroni (1,236 m), MontgrĂłs (1,120 m) and Miranda de les Agulles (903 m).

Gothic Quarter

The Gothic Quarter is the centre of the old city of Barcelona. Despite several changes undergone in the 19th and early 20th century, many of the buildings date from Medieval times, some from as far back as the Roman settlement of Barcelona. El Call, the medieval Jewish quarter, is located within this area too. The Barri Gotic retains a labyrinthine street plan, with many small streets opening out into squares.

Sagrada FamĂ­lia

The Basílica i Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Família, commonly known as the Sagrada Família, is a large Roman Catholic church, designed by Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí (1852–1926). Although incomplete, the church is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Though construction of Sagrada Família had commenced in 1882, Gaudí became involved in 1883, taking over the project and transforming it with his architectural and engineering style—combining Gothic and curvilinear Art Nouveau forms.

Casa BatllĂł

Casa Batlló is a building restored by Antoni Gaudí and Josep Maria Jujol, built in 1877 and remodelled in the years 1904-1906. The local name for the building is Casa dels ossos (House of Bones), as it has a visceral, skeletal organic quality. It was originally designed for a middle-class family. The building looks very remarkable — like everything Gaudí designed, only identifiable as Modernisme or Art Nouveau in the broadest sense.
